In observance of the March 8 International Women’s Day, the Lift and Elevator Industry Business Women Association (AYSKAD) met with schoolgirls attending the 11th and 12th grades for a breakfast at the Department of Elevator Systems.

During the event, sponsored by the All Elevator Industrialists and Businesspeople Association (TASIAD), the students had the opportunity to know the elevator industry better and to meet with the businesswomen who work at different levels of the industry. Members from Aydın, Bursa, Erzurum, İzmir, Konya and Istanbul attended the meeting.

“Women should participate actively in every field of life”

Participants first introduced themselves, and AYSKAD Chairwoman Yasemin Bulut made a speech. She emphasized that women should participate actively in every field of social life in order to help Turkey keep up with the new world order, and stated that it is necessary to eliminate gender apartheid in working life.

“We are in touch with the companies of the industry”

Vice Chairwoman Deniz Demirkaplan stated that the woman workforce in the elevator industry is undeniable and young people who are vocationally educated are needed at all levels of the industry. She indicated that the association is in touch with companies of the industry to arrange onsite internships for the students. She also noted that, during the 2019-2020 school year, they have provided internship experience for 42 students in line with their departments.

“Our target is to deploy the qualified and inclusive vocational education model all over Turkey”

Board Member and Aydın representative Meltem Büger emphasized that they prioritized vocational education for the development of the elevator industry, and their target was to deploy the qualified and inclusive vocational education model within the frame of a protocol signed with the Ministry of National Education for all of Turkey. Büger stated that 12 schools would be supported within the scope of this three-year protocol, starting this year with Aydın Mimar Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Malatya Şehit Gökhan Ertan Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and Bursa Ovaakça Şarık Tara Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School.

The number of students granted scholarships will double next year

Finally, the head of the AYSKAD Member Relations Committee, Gönül Kaya, took the floor. She stated that this year they have granted scholarships to 14 schoolgirls in order to support women’s employment, and their target was to double that number through the promotions that will be carried out at schools.

During the meeting held under the slogan, “AYSKAD Educates Yellow Helmet Girls for the Elevator Industry,” the schoolgirls stated that they follow AYSKAD practices closely, and that being together with the leading women of the industry provided them self-confidence and gave them a nice day on International Women’s Day.
